Charles Daney's Being and Nakedness site provides information about Marion Zimmer Bradley and her novel The Mists Of Avalon. Because it sounded so good, I bought a copy (second-hand rather than new). It took me a while to get through this very substantial book's 1009 pages, and several times I almost gave up, irritated by absurdities and inconsistencies. The occasional patches where the author allowed her apparent hobby horses just a bit too much of an outing for my taste didn't help either. However, I persevered, and am glad I did, as the the culmination of the book is a tour-de-force of strong and committed writing. Certainly, the attempt at a complete and coherent re-telling of the Arthurian myths and legends is worthwhile - and vastly to be preferred to the saccharine Victorian tales which have had so much currency for so long.

Interestingly, Charles Daney fails to quote the book's one short passage of no-nonsense, no-false-modesty nudity, and instead quotes two passages of ritual/sacred nudity. Since the latter are explicitly sexual - sex being a key element of Bradley's Druidical religion - I am not sure they are truly justifiable as of interest to naturists.

As most will know, the book has also been made into a film.
