Charles Daney's Being and Nakedness site provides information about Howard Fast - referring to him as a "mainstream" author (his quotes), but omitting to mention that many would recognise the title of one of his non-sf novels: Spartacus. There you will find information about Howard Fast's short story The Trap, including a link to an on-line version titled The First Men. The latter title is used for the first story of the UK collection Edge Of Tomorrow. I enjoyed all the stories in this book, including the final tale, The Sight Of Eden, which is also covered by Charles Daney.
